Materdei College
Mater Dei Institute benefits from being centrally located. It is within sight of Croke Park and a 10-15 minute walk from O'Connell Street. It is located on Clonliffe Road, in Drumcondra, just off the main road from the city centre out to the airport.
Buses: (3, 11, 11A, 11B, 16, 16A, 16B) Northbound from O'Connell Street (opposite Gresham Hotel). Get off bus at Lower Drumcondra Road (junction with Clonliffe Road). Cross Lower Drumcondra Road to the beginning of Clonliffe Road. Continue along the left side of Clonliffe Road. The Mater Dei entrance is situated about 200 yards along this road.
Trains:
Most trains from Connolly Station (Dublin to Maynooth line) stop at Drumcondra Station.
Mater Dei Institute has a total student population - undergraduate and postgraduate - of about 400. Students can look forward to quality learning opportunities and a challenging education in small group settings.
Information and Communications Technology
The Institute has one of the best computer-student ratios in Ireland with a rich network of information and communications technology: intranet site, providing on and off-campus e-learning resources free, high-speed internet access and personal e-mail account video conferencing and multi-media authoring facilities data-projection systems in all teaching areas
on-line library catalogue.
Students are equipped, in the computer center, with the skills necessary for using ICT as a teaching and learning resource in second-level schools. Mater Dei is also home of the LOGOS project, which provides teaching and learning resources for the new Junior Certificate in Religious Education. It is the first time that e-learning has been used in Ireland for the provision of in-career education of teachers.
Personnel
Students of the Institute have the services of a full-time College Chaplain. The Chaplain encourages students to make the link between personal life and professional study through he organization of daily liturgy, retreats, justice outreaches, pastoral care and personal development.
A College Medical Officer and Counsellor are also available for student welfare. The Medical Officer is available to all undergraduate students free of charge, while the Counsellor may be accessed at a reduced rate.
Access
The Institute offers three Access places annually, providing each successful Access Student with a grant as well as an ongoing mentoring service throughout each of the four years. Applicants applying under Access do so through the CAO and also directly to Mater Dei Institute on an Access Application form. Applicants are also required to attend for interview.
